Directed Appoints New President
December 31, 2014, Vista, California - Tarek Kutrieh has been promoted to the position of President of Directed, effective January 1st, 2015.
For the past one and a half years, Kutrieh has served as Directed’s CFO and COO.
The promotion was announced by Jim Minarik, Chairman and CEO of Directed’s parent company, DEI Holdings, Inc., which also owns Polk Audio and Definitive Technology, operating under DEI’s Sound United banner. Kutrieh will continue to report directly to Minarik in his new role.
Prior to joining Directed in July of 2013, Kutrieh served in the operations team at The Gores Group, a $3.7 billion private equity fund where he was focused on investments in the automotive and technology sectors, and at McKinsey & Company as a consultant. Kutrieh earned his BS in Engineering at Purdue University and his MBA at The Wharton School.
On announcing Kutrieh’s promotion, Minarik said, “Tarek has played a key role in the remarkable growth of Directed over the past year and a half, not only in our traditional retail business, but also in our fast-growing car dealer business, as well as in the emerging markets for Connected Car devices like Viper SmartStart and other products and services for the User Based Insurance (UBI) markets.”
Minarik further explained that while he will be continuing his substantial support of and direct involvement with Directed in 2015 and beyond, Kutrieh’s promotion will make it possible for him to spend more time on both the overall strategy for DEI Holdings, and actively supporting its Sound United Division, headed by industry veteran Kevin Duffy.
Directed, recipient of hundreds of technology patents and awards, is a world leader in automotive electronics. Its products protect and remotely start more vehicles than any other on the planet. The Viper brand created the Connected Car category with the launch of Viper SmartStart in 2009 – the app that lets you start, control and locate your car from virtually anywhere in the world with your smartphone.
